Deer Management

The goals of the Trumansburg Deer Management Program (TDMP) are to reduce the negative impacts of the Village’s excessive deer population, such as Lyme disease, car accidents and property damage.

The TDMP operates between the months of September and March, on specific sites volunteered by the property owner. The program is run entirely by volunteers, with participants generally active Friday and Saturday evenings – but potentially active at other times during the week – on any or all of the sites. Most of the deer is donated to the Venison Donation Program to supply venison to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. The Village provides periodic updates on the number of deer taken and the amount donated to the Food Bank.
