Since the mid-1990s the Village has been under a mandate from Tompkins County to secure a secondary source of water with the equivalent capacity of the Village’s existing lakeshore well. Attempts to address this mandate were unsuccessful until the current project, in collaboration with NY State Parks, was put into motion. The project, when completed, will give the Village a fully redundant water source located at Taughannock State Park, and will more than double the Village’s current production capacity, not only securing the water supply for current users, but introducing the possibility of supplying water to neighboring municipalities in the future.
The project is being funded by a combination of both grant money and low-interest loans provided by the NY State Environmental Facilities Corporation. Project completion is slated for spring/summer of 2017.
