The Towns of Ulysses and Covert, and the Village of Trumansburg, collectively as the Three Falls Local Development Corporation, are pleased to share the announcement by New York State Parks of their acquisition of the former Camp Barton property. The property becomes the newest New York State Park, with a name to be determined at a future date. The State Parks’ press release can be read here: Press Release
The Three Falls Local Development Corporation has entered into an agreement with State Parks to manage the property. Although the Park is open to the public, it is only available for passive use – the trail to the falls, buildings/facilities and bathrooms are all closed due to the need for significant safety and infrastructure improvements. Additionally, swimming, camping, and watercraft use are prohibited. Three Falls LDC looks forward to working with State Parks over the next several years to improve and modernize the site and its facilities in order to bring it up to the standards one would expect from a NY State Park, while preserving and protecting the property.
There will be a public informational meeting on Tuesday, July 1st at 6pm at the Trumansburg Fire Hall (74 West Main Street, Trumansburg, NY). The meeting will be to share details on the process and plans moving forward, as well as to answer questions from attendees on this milestone event.
