ELM STREET NEWS UPDATE
The Village of Trumansburg is considering a proposal to rezone 14 and 16 Elm Street from Residential (R) to Downtown Commercial West (DCW) by expanding the existing commercial district boundary which currently ends at 12 Elm Street. The property owners, who operate the Elm Heritage Hotel, submitted this request in May to allow expanded hospitality services beyond the current five-bedroom bed and breakfast limitations. The proposal aims to support the historic property's continued operation as a hospitality business while contributing to the village's tourism economy and preserving the building's historic character. The Village Board has been deliberating this proposal since May, with discussions at monthly meetings through September. The board is now moving forward with the formal review process as a way to gather comprehensive input from neighbors, stakeholders, and the broader community before any final decision is made. The board has prepared draft documents including proposed local law D4 of 2025 and revised zoning map to support community review and discussion.
Community members are encouraged to stay informed and participate in this important village planning decision. A detailed summary of the board's discussions from May through September is available to better understand the evolving conversation. For more information, contact the village office or attend monthly board meetings held on the second Monday of each month, available both in-person and via Zoom. The board has tentatively scheduled a public hearing for the proposed change and map revision for December 8th, 2025, which is their regular December meeting. However, public comment is welcome at any board meeting leading up to that date.
