NY State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative
In June of 2020, Governor Cuomo issued Executive Order 203 which required municipalities with police departments to perform a comprehensive review of police policies, practices and procedures, and develop a plan to improve the same.
The State issued official guidance in August, and the Village began its process in earnest in September. This process included in-person and virtual meetings with interested members of the community, local elected officials, representatives from the school district, and conversations with other area law enforcement agencies. In addition, Trustee and Police Commissioner Keith Hannon has continued the conversation with a listening group of meeting attendees.
The result of these efforts is the Draft Trumansburg Police Reform Report, which can be viewed here:
In addition, an introductory video on the process from one of the virtual meetings can be viewed here: https://us02web.zoom.us/rec/share/Uw8-lWaYysPdekBk5DNUQs_L-1bt2nQtfNMdRzyw27or_lB7jLir6RAXAun4k-Gl.tuAcV7Kc6oizb57L?startTime=1605053382000
